When a small, irregularly rough, grainy surface of sandstone is worn smooth by erosion, sandstone pebbles are born. Sandstone pebbles can be handmade or can be processed with a machine into a round, rectangular or square shape. Various sandstone pebbles in polished, chamfered and calibrated form are exported to various countries worldwide. The main advantage of using these pebbles has been negligible maintenance.

Area Of Excellence
The districts of Karauli, Dholpur and Bharatpur on the east, Kota, Bundi, Bhilwara and Chittorgarh on the south, and Nagaur and Jodhpur on the west of Jaipur are the most promising ones. Shivpuri and Lalitpur in Madhya Pradesh also have fair amount of sandstone pebbles.

Usage
Sandstone pebbles have been extensively used in exterior cladding of homes, artificial ponds and garden pathways. These pebbles impart a sense of grandeur to the overall look of the architecture. These are used for different applications and different designs are being made out of these pebbles.
